[ARCHIVED] City Council To Review Proposed Nevada Way Updates on June 10

Nevada Way 5.2025

June 9, 2025 UPDATE: The asphalt on Nevada Way is more than 20 years old and in need of replacement. Water service lines under the street are 50 years old - antiquated by today's standards. Boulder City staff invited business owners and community members to share input, holding more than two dozen outreach opportunities. Based on recent additional feedback and ongoing communication with Nevada Way stakeholders, we updated our approach to the parking configuration. Option 2A with modified seating provides for a dedicated walkway under the porticos where available. City Council will discuss the latest update and could vote during the regular Council Meeting on June 10 at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Reconstruction includes replacing the water services, installing backflows and replacing two mainline water valves to protect our water distribution system, and improvements to better align with ADA requirements. The project will also provide better visibility of pedestrians and local storefronts. Project is funded by Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission and the Utility Fund.

This revised configuration also supports the goals of the Nevada RTC Complete Streets initiative, which promotes roadways that are safe, accessible, and convenient for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Option 2A reflects these priorities by enhancing safety, accessibility, and multimodal usability while preserving community character.

Key benefits of Option 2A:

  • Provides a dedicated walkway for unencumbered pedestrian movement past businesses with outdoor seating and display items
  • Allows sidewalk extensions on both sides to meet ADA standards
  • Maintains a 24-foot clearance for emergency vehicles
  • Provides code compliant vehicle parking on both sides of the street
  • Preserves the existing parade route
  • Supports outdoor dining opportunities
  • Existing ADA ramps will be replaced to meet current standards and crosswalks will be replaced/upgraded with more decorative look
  • Adds motorcycle parking
  • Improves pedestrian safety and accessibility, in alignment with Complete Streets goals

In addition, the project includes:

  • Full street improvements with new asphalt and striping
  • Upgraded crosswalks
  • Additional vehicle parking on Wyoming Street to offset parking changes on Nevada Way
  • Lighting of existing trees along the corridor that currently don’t have festive lights

Importantly, this option will allow us to meet our construction timeline with work beginning on July 7—a period identified by the Nevada Way stakeholders as the slowest time of year for operations. This timing is intended to minimize disruption and maintain access and visibility for local businesses throughout the process.

Initial feedback from stakeholders been highly positive, and Option 2A represents a comprehensive solution that meets the functional, aesthetic, and safety objectives of the project—while aligning with the long-term vision of the RTC Complete Streets program.

City Council will discuss the latest update and could vote during the regular Council Meeting on June 10 at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
